Week Five!

This week in Child Development we talked about the benefits of  breastfeeding and other things. And on Thursday we created our flour babies! I made a little girl and named her Bree. We had a baby shower that day as well. Which consisted of games and cookies. Over the weekend, I took my baby everywhere I went, and treated it like a real baby, even though the flour baby is interesting to carry around, I am definitely ready to get rid of it.

Week Four!

This week in child development, we learned about neonatal care and all the things necessary for this point in the mother's and baby's life. Things such as rest, good nutrition, etc. We learned about bonding and more information on breast feeding. After this lesson, we reviewed everything we have leaned over the past weeks for our test. We also got a paper that told the materials needed to make our flour babies which will be happening next week. I cannot wait to make and carry around my flour baby!! I am also very excited to start the infant unit of our year.

Week Three!

This week in Child Development we learned all about Labor and Delivery. We stated out the week with watching the miracle of life video and watching the actual birth. Next we took notes on the different stages of labor, early labor, birth and after birth. The notes included the different contractions, natural and induced labor, and much more. I can say myself that this was the "grossest" week thus far. Another activity that we did is called Baby Budget which included looking up everything a baby needs through the first year. That was an eye opening project, realizing how expensive a baby actually is.

Week Two!

This week in Child Development, we went more into depth regarding the fetal stage and the last six months of the pregnancy. The fetus can do things such as: cough, sneeze, hiccup, kick, and more. During the last six months, the baby is obviously growing, along with its facial features becoming more dominant. Another lesson we went over was the different types of problems associated with pregnancy. Such as, diseases and infections, general risk factors, personal care, environmental hazards and more. There were so many new things I learned during this lesson. We also did an experiment in class! We took two eggs soaked in vinegar and placed one in green colored water and the other in rubbing alcohol. The purpose of this experiment was to show how what the mother consumes, goes straight to the baby. The water soaked egg turned green and popped after cutting it. The alcohol soaked egg was basically cooked during the test. This was a very good visual representation.

Week One!

This week in child development we learned about all of the different trimesters and what goes on during that time. The first trimester is week 1-12, the second is week 13-27 and the last is week 28-40. In class we also went over the first three months of the pregnancy. During this time, the baby is growing, working its muscles, developing body and facial features and much more. This week I was also chosen to wear the empathy belly, a pregnancy simulator. I had to activities such as walk up the stairs, pick up objects, sit down and stand back up and more. all while carrying a diaper bag (my backpack) and another baby in a car seat. I'm sure this test was only a fraction of what a real pregnant women goes through but I can say, it was pretty difficult. I am looking forward to the rest of the year and all of the different things I will learn in this class.
